On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2023, Gallery Moshe Tabibnia hosts Woman Life Freedom, a the site-specific installation by Berlin gallerist and cultural creator Anahita Sadighi. The project will be presented at Sala Brera, first floor, and it is dedicated to the ongoing women's rights and freedom movement in Iran. This movement enjoys the support of a broad cross-section of the Iranian population, transcending age, race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, and social class.
The inclusive spirit of the women's rights movement is reflected in the installation as it fuses multiple media and forms, both past and present. It features exceptional, museum-quality historical Persian textiles and vessels from the 16th-19th Centuries, including a large number of antique Persian amphorae. These works are presented in conversation, forming a cohesive unit that symbolizes the powerful resistance of Iranians who continue to defy the regime, as well as the solidarity and respect of the international community.
The diversity of the revolutionary movement is mirrored in the shapes and colors of the vessels. In terms of composition and form, the amphorae evoke fertility statues of female deities from ancient Near Eastern cultures and trace their method of manufacture back to Babylonian times. A reflective platform of mirrored glass within the installation echo their surroundings, amplifying voices from the past, present, and prospective future.
The aim of the installation Woman Life Freedom is to honor those who bravely stand up for what is right on a daily basis and to remind those in power that the world is watching.
