Woven Splendor from Timbuktu to Tibet: Exotic Rugs and Textiles from New York Collectors
To celebrate the seventy-fifth anniversary of Hajji Baba Club, the oldest and most prestigious rug collecting club in New York, the Historical Society hosted an exhibition featuring nearly 75 objects belonging to the Club members, including rugs, costume and other Near Eastern/Central Asian textiles. In addition to textiles, the show incorporates photographs and images revealing how these artefacts were originally made. A complementary exhibition, "Orientalism in New York: 1850-1930", chronicles the history of the Hajji Baba Club while examining the history of the Oriental rug in New York.
